AAA vs. a Mobile Tire Service: What Is the Difference?

AAA is a well-known name for roadside help. But its roadside service and a mobile repair service do different jobs. Here is how they compare, so you can choose the right one.

What AAA roadside help covers

AAA roadside help covers towing, spare tire changes, jump starts, battery replacement at the roadside, lockouts and fuel delivery. Towing distance and the number of service calls depend on your membership level.

What it does not cover

If you have a flat and no usable spare, the usual answer is a tow. And its roadside services do not include repairing a tire, replacing a tire or doing brake work. Those jobs happen at a shop, after the tow.

What a mobile tire service does

A mobile service brings the repair to you. We repair or replace the tire, replace brake pads, rotors and calipers, rotate tires and replace batteries where your car is parked. There is no tow and no waiting room.

Which one should you choose?

  • Locked out or out of fuel: call AAA or a locksmith.
  • Flat tire with no spare: a mobile tire service can repair or replace the tire on the spot.
  • Squealing or grinding brakes: a mobile service can do the work in your driveway.
  • Dead battery: either can help. A mobile service will replace the battery where you are parked.

Many drivers keep both: AAA for towing and travel perks, and a mobile service for repairs. Our membership comparison shows the differences side by side.

AAA details are based on AAA's published roadside information, checked October 2026, and vary by club and plan. TireDoc Mobile Tire Service is not affiliated with AAA.
