Step 1: Get to a safe place
Turn on your hazard lights and slow down gradually. Move to a flat spot well away from traffic if you can, such as a parking lot or a wide shoulder. Stay clear of moving cars.
Step 2: Do not keep driving on it
Driving on a flat tire can ruin the tire and damage the wheel. A tire that could have been repaired may have to be replaced if you drive on it flat.
Step 3: Decide how to fix it
- Use your spare if you have one and the right tools, and you can do it safely. Many compact spares are limited to about 50 mph, so check the label.
- Call a mobile tire service. We come to you and repair or replace the tire on the spot, without a tow.
Can the tire be repaired?
Small punctures in the tread area can often be repaired. Damage to the sidewall or large holes usually means a new tire. A lasting repair is done from the inside of the tire, not just with a plug.
